Patmos II, Germany and dogs

1 Jun

First a little closure on Greece. Here is a dog photo of a pooch on Rhodes that we loved because he would peek at us under his gate every time we passed and never bark or harass us.

Now, before leaving Patmos, Mari and I had one more adventure hiking over a mountain wearing our longest pants, shoes with socks and carrying sticks to ward off the local poisonous snakes. No snakes appeared but we had great fun meeting a shepherd with his dogs and goats and chickens. We gave him Starbucks coffee packets and a souvenir US dollar bill which brought on a big smile and permission to take his photo, which Mari got but Judy just got his home, his water supply and his chickens and dogs.

Later we said Goodbye to our hotel manager, Alex (not George this time) after a wonderful stay at the beautiful Patmos Paradise Hotel.

We boarded our overnight ferry for our 1:00 AM sailing after befriending a local girl at the waiting dock and entertaining her with some postcard gifts.

A trip across Athens by taxi the next morning took us to our flight to Frankfurt and rental car drive to Baden Baden Germany to meet friends Mariella and Hans at their incredible Frida Kahlo Museum. In the future this exhibit will be known to more of the world, as it should be. We will always remember this very special visit and their wonderful hospitality.

We are now staying in Bad Bellingen, Germany (we call it Bad Bellingham) and traveling across the Rhine River to Switzerland daily to see Dee’s family and celebrate the graduation of granddaughter Madeline. Our next update will be more about this area and Judy and Mari’s spa visit and a great German meal.

Great pictures. The picture of the dog peeking under the gate is so cute and the pictures of the mans house, chicken and water supply really shows how simple people still live in many areas (and I bet he is very happy with his life). I am glad you are having a good time and look forward to seeing more pictures of Germany and Switzerland. Had a nice update from Roxi today concerning mom. She sent it to you also by email. Sounds like she is improving daily and learning that she needed to make more progress has spurred her on to getting up and around and doing more for herself. Keep the blogs coming. Love you
